(HP DC5800 equipped with the almighty Zotac 1GB GT 710 GPU. The $50 PC played some PCSX2 games really well. Rather than moving my PS2 around town, I'd like to use PCSX2. My emulation obsession started with a raspberry pi, then went to a $50 Windows 7 PC I found on Craigslist with about another $100 in extras, to now. I really want to play Champions of Norrath. Conceivable I should have done this first, but I got crazy with my clicking and just bought, bought, bought (anyone else seen the South Park episode about the economy? Yeah, I may be part of the problem). Because of my advanced intelligence, since the stuff is being shipped as I write this, I'm now going to ask opinions about compatibility. It looked like VU was always the thing getting clobbered.I have checked forum after forum, post after post, and I bought a setup. Setting my desktop resolution to 720p helped quite a bit, but even then I got a whole lot of slow mo toward the end of the game.Įdit: should have added that I tried EE cycle rate 0 as well, and was what I ultimately settled on, but that didn’t seem to make a difference either. When going full screen, it was still rendering at 4K despite me telling it to render at 720p. At the very least, it’s extremely impressive that a game that abuses the hardware in the way this one does can be emulated all the way through to this degree of accuracy, but it is just bizarre to me that people that have weaker hardware seem to be having much better luck than me - it kind of makes me suspect that a lot of people just load up the first area and report based on that, when that particular zone is one of the least demanding in the whole game.Īs a side note, I found that the size of the window drastically affects performance, which is just bonkers to me. It’s quite a shame that this is the only way to play this game on PC, as it really does hamper the experience quite a bit. I really must be missing something, because OpenGL is unusable everywhere in the game, and D3D11 even has major slowdown quite often, particularly toward the end of the game. Is anyone else with a comparable CPU/GPU able to emulate this game in OpenGL in PCSX2, or at least in DX11 with no slowdown anywhere? I feel like I must be doing something wrong here - I see a ton of people saying that they played the game from start to finish with OpenGL, and I just don't think that there is a CPU out there with enough extra power over the one I have to take it from the performance I am seeing to something playable.Įnable speedhacks: true (similar results with false)ĮE Cyclerate: 2 (have tried 1, 2, and 3, no noticeable difference) I have tried dropping the resolution from 6x to 2x, enabling and disabling speed hacks (MTVU, EE cycle rate), and disabling the 60fps hack but none of this seems to help. Most areas have significant slowdown, and GS is pegged near 100% most of the time. OpenGL looks perfect, but the performance is just dog slow. ![]() I was able to install the 60fps hack and get it running pretty well in DX11, and this MOSTLY works, but the game is still missing a ton of effects, and there are black blotches all over the place in the forest areas, and even in DX11, it still slows down quite a bit in places (whenever the hornets come out, the swamps, etc). The latest 1.6, however, does treat my quite a bit more nicely. I had previously tried to run this game in the old 1.4 build, but never had much luck. Unless I am missing something here, it seems like I just don't have a powerful enough rig to emulate the PS3 version yet, so I went back to PCSX2. I used the custom build, and did everything I could to optimize the settings, but I was unable to get more than ~25 fps at the very beginning area, and I know from experience trying to emulate this game in the past that it gets much worse from there. The first thing I wanted to try was emulating the HD edition in RPCS3. First, my system specs: i7 6700k 4.4GHz, GeForce 980 Ti, 32 GB RAM, Windows 10.
